Post-Pandemic Research Quarter

Pursuant to the announcement sent to Stanford faculty members on February 11, 2021, junior tenure-line faculty members who will not have received tenure by September 1, 2021 are automatically eligible to take a Post-Pandemic Research Quarter during the 2021-22 academic year or subsequent years pre-tenure. The intention of this policy is to provide junior faculty members extra time to get their research back on track toward tenure as the academic community emerges from the pandemic. During this research quarter, the faculty member will be exempt from teaching or service obligations to the department and will thus be able to focus exclusively on their research.  The Post-Pandemic Research Quarter is expected to be taken prior to the process of assembling the faculty member’s tenure file. To avoid disruption to necessary course offerings, departments should work with the faculty member taking a Post-Pandemic Research Quarter to find mutually agreeable timing.
